Aberdeen Gardens
Introduction
Wetlands Watch's multi-year project in the historic Aberdeen Gardens neighborhood of Hampton, Virginia, led to the development of its first Neighborhood Resilience Action Plan (RAP). This community-driven initiative honors the area’s rich history and environmental assets while focusing on innovative flood mitigation strategies. Supported by partnerships with the City of Hampton, Hazen & Sawyer, and academic institutions like Virginia Tech, the RAP serves as a blueprint for implementing nature-based solutions, including rain gardens, bioswales, and tree planting. Generous funding from The Blocker Foundation and Virginia Sea Grant has made this work possible, fostering long-term resilience in Aberdeen Gardens and setting a model for climate adaptation efforts statewide.
