Alex Fella
Alex is a writer and researcher based in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He teaches anthropology at Christopher Newport University, and serves as the Director at CityWork, an organization that provides free public research on affordable housing in order to empower nonprofits and activists in the region. His work broadly focuses on the relationship between the built environment and the natural world. More recently, his work tracks the financialization of housing in the Tidewater region. And how rising rents are colliding with climate adaptation plans in Norfolk, leading to the concentration of affordability in flood-prone neighborhoods. He has previously worked on gun violence, Norfolk’s history of gentrification, flooding, and tolls. He earned his M.A. from Yale University and was a fellow at the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society from 2019 to 2023.
