Savannah Newbern, Flood Risk Project Manager

Growing up along the shores of the North River in eastern North Carolina, I developed a deep connection to tidal wetlands and their unique ecosystem. Prior to joining Wetlands Watch, I gained valuable experience in local government, serving as a planner for Currituck and Dare counties, where I witnessed the delicate balance and ever-changing nature of coastal floodplains.

My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning with a concentration in housing and neighborhood development, along with a minor in anthropology, from East Carolina University. Outside of work, I'm dedicated to rewilding my lawn with native, perennial plants and savoring quality time with family and friends in the great outdoors and on the water.

At Wetlands Watch, I'm excited to merge my professional expertise with my passion for nature-based solutions. Together, we'll work towards building a more resilient and adaptable future in the face of climate change's impacts.
